Malnutrition and agricultural technological innovations at the heart of the discussions relating to the 10th African Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS)

 

From October 29 to 30, 2019, Dr Jean Gerard Mezui M’ella and the principal scientific officer for entomology, Professor Abdel Fattah Mabrouk Amer, represented the Inter-African Phytosanitary Council at the activities commemorating the 10th African Day of Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS) in the city of Cairo in Egypt.

Many activities marked this edition mainly focused on the themes of Malnutrition and agricultural technological innovations in Africa. Indeed, the promotion of sustainable access to safe, nutritious and healthy food in African countries is proving to be the cornerstone of the implementation of the aspirations of Agenda 2063 given the need for their materialization. that African citizens are healthy and well nourished.

From then on, all the stakeholders around the current challenges of food and nutritional insecurity in Africa were represented, which made it possible to discuss the means and modalities to advance new plant protection technologies. H.E. Ambassador Josefa Sacko AUC Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture affirmed to this effect that “Agricultural technologies are the means of maintaining food and nutritional security”.

All the stakeholders among which the Inter-African Phytosanitary Council had the opportunity to express themselves on the need for frank and diversified collaboration with actors from the private sector and civil society organizations in order to reverse current trends. in terms of food insecurity and the prevalence of malnutrition.
