CAPACITY BUILDING OF 20 MEMBER STATES ON ISPMS

 

As part of the implementation of recommendations aimed at promoting the harmonization of sanitary and phytosanitary systems, the Inter-African Phytosanitary Council was in Nairobi, Kenya the week of November 8, 2019 to promote the harmonization of sanitary and phytosanitary systems ( SPS) through capacity building of 20 member states on new international standards for phytosanitary measures (ISPMS) and sanitary and phytosanitary compliance (SPS) for trade facilitation.

Indeed, aware of the fact that the harmonization of sanitary and phytosanitary systems (SPS) within AU Member States is essential to secure and facilitate intra-African and international trade in African agricultural products, this workshop made it possible to generate many interesting discussions and the sharing of best practices by national plant protection organizations (NPPOs) which are required to take action favorable to a regional implementation of international agreements and standards that not only guarantee sustainable agriculture for all States members but also the security of trade in agricultural products with minimal trade distortion.
