African Union Inter-African Phytosanitary Council (AU-IAPSC) 13th Steering Committee took off on Monday, virtually, bringing together members of the Steering Committee and other regional partners including Member States, to deliberate on plant health issues around

the continent.

AU-IAPSC coordinated the virtual meeting from its base in Yaounde, Cameroon. The meeting also adopted the AU-IAPSC’s recommendations from the 12th Steering Committee, all of which bordered on the need to embrace a concerted approach to addressing plant health challenges within the region.
The meeting is also particularly dominated by discussions surrounding Covid-19, with a focus on how AU-IAPSC, Member States and all stakeholders can create collective and viable solutions to ensure that mitigation strategies are not only results-based but relevant to the contexts of various member states.
Member States through National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO’s) are also sharing various lessons, challenges and best practices as a way of knowledge sharing and soliciting feedback, in the quest to bring plant protection matters to the fore, for actionable results towards food safety in Africa.
